Frequently asked questions.
Buying, Sizing & Customization
-
Choosing a size is easier when you know what fits. Use the guide below to find the best footprint for your property.
An 8×10 shed would llikely fit apush mower, 2 bikes, garden tools, and seasonal bins.
A 10×12 shed would fit most home riding law mowers, a workbench, ladder, and foldable patio furniture.
A 12×20 shed is perfect for ATVs, motorcycles or a home gym.
A lofted barn adds 40% more space via overhead lofts—perfect for holiday decor.
Pro Tip: If you're on the fence between two sizes, we always recommend going one size larger. Most homeowners find their shed fills up faster than expected!
-
This truly depends on the area. In most city and more urban areas, 10x12s utility styles tend to be the most popular. This size typically does not require permits, fits in tighter areas and is a common HOA approved style. The Southern Classic and Premiers are most popular for those looking to use their shed as an extra living space such as home offices, AirBNBs, and She Sheds.
-
Liberty Sheds are experts in building sheds to meet your HOA requirements. Many of those requirements include matching paint or vinyl colors and we offer color matching. Many HOAs also require matching siding tyles like Lap, Board and Batton, and Vinyl, all of which Liberty Sheds offers. Simply let us know your specific requirements and we will work to meet those approvals.
-
Liberty Sheds are constructed similar to housing standards. That means we use top quality siding products.
As such, our most popular sheds are built with LP 7/16” Smartside that can be painted or stained. Liberty’s siding comes complete with Radiant Barrier.
Our Vinyl siding is builder Grade vinyl with 7/16” Sheathing and Radiant Barrier. Almost all other shed builders use lower grades and thinner vinyl.
Metal buildings are more popular for commercial style buildings and carports and less so for portable style sheds.
Plastic sheds at the big-box stores can be useful for storing items like porch pillows but are not designed to be a durable option for most outdoor storage needs.

Absolutely! Because Liberty Sheds are built with the highest standards we have a large number of customers who transform their sheds. People are looking to expand their living spaces and can customize everything from adding windows, electric, interior walls and more. Many others choose a Liberty Cardinal Cottage style that is completely finished on the inside, including electric, air and vinyl flooring!
-
Sure! We even offer an electric package. Our electric package is delivered ready to be connected to your power source by a licensed electrician or homeowner. This connection is not provided by Liberty.
-
Liberty sheds are engineered and built as sheds. Liberty is not a licensed contractor, nor a home manufacturer. However, many of our customers have upfit or converted their Liberty shed into an office, short-term rental, cabin, or tiny home. The key is working with your local government and code application office to ensure compliance every step of the way. You can hire a general contractor, or you can contract the project yourself! Liberty is not involved in this process, but supplies the shed as a manufactured product starter kit for your amazing conversion project!
Permits
-
Permit requirements vary by location. In many areas, sheds larger than 12 feet in any direction require a permit, while smaller buildings may only need zoning approval or no permit at all. Because rules vary by county and city, it’s always best to check with your local building or zoning office before purchasing.
Upon request, a standard set of engineered plans are available for Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina that can help obtain a permit.
-
Liberty does provide plans and upgrades to meet even the high 150MPH high wind areas in Eastern North Carolina. You will want to talk to your local dealer for these details.
-
Our engineered plans are rated only for sheds and are not rated for the extra weight requirements of garages for vehicles.
-
Yes. Liberty utilizes hurricane ties by attaching truss screws at all top plate rafters. This reinforces the connection between the roof truss and the wall plate.
These truss screws are considered an approved, high-performance alternative to traditional metal hurricane clips/ties for securing rafters to wall plates. They meet or exceed code requirements for wind uplift resistance, providing a faster, often stronger connection
Payment Options
-
Yes, Liberty Sheds offers rent-to-own shed options with no credit check required. You can choose flexible terms ranging from 24 to 72 months, making it easy to get the building you need without traditional financing. Early payoff options are also available if you decide to pay off your shed sooner.
-
Rent-to-own is a rental plan, not a financing plan. This means there is no interest rate. There is a set, monthly payment.
-
It depends on your situation. Financing is often the better option if you have good credit and want to save on total cost. Rent-to-own is ideal if you prefer no credit check, flexible terms, and the option to return the shed without a long-term commitment.
Delivery and Foundations
-
No, a concrete pad is not required. Liberty Sheds can level your building using concrete blocks during installation. However, a gravel or concrete pad is recommended to improve drainage, reduce settling, and extend the life of your shed.
You can learn more about how to create a prepared pad on our delivery page.
-
The truck and trailer often require more room than buyers anticipate. Before delivery, the site should be cleared of obstacles like stumps, rocks, and debris. Make sure there is enough space for the delivery truck and trailer, and check for low-hanging branches, wires, or tight access points. A level area is recommended to ensure proper placement and long-term stability.
There are many great instructions on the Liberty Sheds delivery page. It’s very helpful for anyone having a shed delivered to review this information to help ensure a successful delivery.
-
Yes, Liberty provides free blocks to level the shed at delivery, based on the delivery team leveling the shed from the highest point of the delivery site using the smallest block available. We do not recommend placing units on blocks higher than 24 inches. If the site requires that we go over 24 inches, charges will apply. See the delivery page for more information.
-
You should allow for a minimum of one foot on each side of your shed or gazebo.
There also must be enough room to maneuver corners or go under wires or tree branches. We recommend everyone review the information on the delivery page for more delivery considerations. If unsure if the shed will fit, ask your salesperson for a site visit.
-
Your fence opening will need to be at least one foot larger than your shed width. If your fence opening is too small, you can either temporarily remove a section or two of your fence for delivery or choose to have the unit built on-site.
The Liberty delivery team is not allowed to remove fencing.
-
Yes. You sure can! We offer an on-site build experience for those who simply have no room for traditional shed delivery. You can learn more on our on-site building page. There is an additional fee for this service. See your local sales team for details.

Care and Warranty
-
When people walk into a Liberty Shed, many people note that they can just “feel the difference” with our sheds. We design them to be durable outdoor storage units and back it up with an amazing 10-year shed warranty. Sure, we have seen a few “lifetime” shed warranties out there, but be careful. Many of these companies have only been around a few years, with some already out of business. Liberty Sheds has a solid 20+ years in the Carolinas, high customer service and Better Business Bureau ratings and will be here for you and your shed!
-
Liberty Sheds are warranted for ten years from the date of installation against defects in materials and workmanship.
-
We make the warranty and repair request easy at Liberty. Simply go to our warranty/service request page on our website and fill out a quick form letting us know about the problem. Liberty is there for you!
-
Just like your home, storage sheds require proper maintenance to preserve the life and quality of the unit.
Check for leaks, cracks and holes. Make sure there are no missing shingles or cracked windows. Sheds can also be hit by yard debris causing cracks or holes in the siding. Those should be repaired as soon as it is noticed.
Keep all grass and vegetation trimmed around the shed.
If skirting is used around the permitter, choose lattice or other material that will allow for proper air circulation for the shed floor.
Some settling may occur with your shed. Always check the doors and use the adjusters to ensure they are level and close appropriately.
Keeping water away from any building will always help in maintenance. Consider adding gutters and door awnings.
-
Yes, you can. These sheds are portable outbuildings, and as such, are able to be transported. You can contact us and get a moving quote from our delivery team or you can schedule it through a different company.
